Introduction
Disinformation, ‘fake-news’, and ‘post-truth’ have become common phenomena in our society. People are bombarded with disinformation all the time and this can have serious implications for their decision making abilities.
Description
Disinformation is the deliberate spread of false information or conspiracy theories with the aim of deceiving people.
Disinformation is also used to create ‘fake news’ and this allows the disinformation to spread at the same time that it appears to be news.
Post-truth is also a variant of disinformation that allows for information to be selectively edited to create false but believable narratives.
Example
Disinformation about vaccines has led to an over reliance on vaccination for health over protection of the immune system.
Disinformation about the lethality of C19 led to regulations surrounding the ‘Lockdowns’ being accepted more generally by the population.
Disinformation about the data surrounding the Climate has caused punitive action that will seriously affect people and their quality of life.
